Some apps use Plaid to help you safely connect your bank account. One way Plaid can do this is by sending a tiny test deposit—called a micro-deposit—to your bank. Here's how the process works, step by step.
What Is a Micro-Deposit?
A micro-deposit is a small amount of money (usually $0.01) that Plaid sends to your bank account to make sure everything is set up correctly. This deposit includes a 3-letter code you’ll use to finish linking your account.
Link Your Account with Micro-Deposits
- Start the connection process in your app
- When you search for your bank, choose Link with account numbers (if the app offers this option).
- Enter your bank details
- Type in your routing number and account number.
- Double confirm that the numbers are correct.
- Wait for the micro-deposit
- Plaid will send a $0.01 deposit to your bank account. This usually takes 1–2 business days.
- In some cases, Plaid can verify your info right away. If that happens, you're all set.
How to Find and Use Your 3-Letter Code
If your app asks for a 3-letter code, follow these steps:
- Log in to your bank’s app or website
- Look for the $0.01 deposit
- This is the test deposit Plaid sent.

Having Trouble?
- Didn’t get the $0.01 deposit? Contact the app or service you’re trying to connect to—they can check the status for you.
- Typed the wrong account number? Start over and enter the correct routing and account numbers.
- Other connection issues? Again, reach out to the app. They’ll be able to look into your connection and help you out.
