People use Plaid to securely connect their financial accounts to the apps and services they want to use. To protect you and your financial accounts, Plaid uses advanced monitoring that automatically detects suspicious activity and helps prevent fraud.
On occasion, Plaid will send you an email (sent from noreply@plaid.com) to confirm that you made a recent bank account connection to an app or service. If you received an email from Plaid, it does not mean that fraud has taken place. Please review the details in the email including your bank’s name and the app or service that you may have used recently, to then confirm the account connection.
If you do not recognize the account connection, it could mean that someone is attempting to connect your financial account to an app or service without your permission. We recommend taking the following actions to secure your financial institution account, your financial app or service account, and your email account.
Report the unauthorized connection
Follow the instructions in the email: “click here to disconnect and secure your account”. When you click on the link, you’ll be prompted to confirm that you want to report and disconnect the unauthorized account connection. Once you click on “Report and disconnect”, Plaid will take action to unlink your account from the app or service.
Check for unauthorized activity & contact your account providers
While receiving an unexpected email from Plaid does not necessarily indicate that your phone number is compromised, check for any unauthorized activity (like transactions or transfers) on the financial institution and/or financial app referenced in the email you received. If you see anything unusual, contact the financial institution and/or financial app directly to address the issue.
Change your passwords
We also recommend that you change your passwords for:
- The financial institution referenced in the email
- The financial app or service referenced in the email if you it
- Your email account
- Any other account that uses the same password
Use strong, unique passwords for all of your accounts. See our article on personal security for guidance on selecting a strong password and additional best practices for preventing fraud.
When to contact Plaid
The email you received from Plaid contains a “Support ID” at the bottom of the email - this is a 6-character identifier that’s unique to the connection attempt referenced in the email and is made up of both numbers and letters (i.e. alphanumeric). By providing this Support ID to our team, we may be able to help delete financial data from our systems if you suspect that data from your financial institution was shared with Plaid.
Alternatively, users based in the US can manage their connections using Plaid Portal without needing to reach out to our Support team.
If you’re a Canadian user or otherwise wish to submit a request with our Support team, please click the support icon on the bottom right corner of the page and provide your unique, 6-character “Support ID.”
